Rare Ranger

In 2019, Ford Motor Co. reintroduced the Ranger name on an all-new midsize pickup to battle the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. Pickup truck enthusiasts remember that the most recent Ford to previously wear the Ranger nameplate was a small import-fighter introduced in 1982 as a 1983 truck model. Ford produced this compact Ranger pickup truck through three generations, ending production at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant in 2012.

Before the compact Ranger and the current midsize Ranger, Ford used the Ranger name as the top trim level of its full-size F-Series trucks from 1967 to 1982. And even earlier than the “bump body” F-Series truck that Ford introduced in 1967, Ford named its top-trim-level F-Series truck the “Ranger,” although few remember the 1965 and ’66 Rangers due to their rarity.
