Ever since Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs cruised through downtown Miami in Sonny’s Ferrari, with the drumbeat of Phil Collins’ “In the soundtrack, Florida’s Magic City has been the setting of umpteen cop dramas. The ’80s begat others, such as (1991–99), (2006–13), (2007–13) and even this year’s Netflix series . But the longest-running police procedural that used Miami as a backdrop was , airing from 2002 to 2012. Now’s producers, like Jerry Bruckheimer, Anthony Zuiker and Carol Mendelsohn, are making the leap to unscripted television with this new true crime series, digging into cases that use cutting-edge forensic technology to solve them.
