PH Profile Peter Chipman

Crocodile and ivory hunting were all commercial back then. When crocodile skins were in high demand, there was a market, so my father was one of the first ones on the Zambezi, in western Zambia. And ivory hunting at the time was a thriving business, and he hunted western Zambia and some in Angola. I don’t know where that ivory went. He used to sell it in Livingstone to Indian merchants, and they had traders from all over the world. I don’t know if it went to China at that time, but that’s when ivory couriers were everywhere. There was no restriction, so I think it went all over the world.

When I left school, I was very lucky. I applied to Hunters Africa, which in Zambia was called Hunters Limited, Kuzuma Safaris and United Safaris, and surprisingly, all of them offeredin Zambia, and through my research that they had a good reputation in Botswana.
