A few months later we were travlling through the South African country side to South Africa’s Limpopo province. Mr. Norm and I were greeted by Cloete and Stienie Hepburn at their lovely lodge; Cloete was to be one of our professional hunters as well as our host. Stienie, our hostess, proved to be a marvelous cook and had lunch ready on our arrival.

“Keep the door and windows closed at your cabin. Otherwise the monkeys or a black mamba might get in,” she advised, promptly lifting the bottom of her sweater to show me her handgun. She said it was always ready for whatever dangerous critters the bush presented to her.
