My ego took a physical hit after 32 years in the field as a PH when, in April 2020, I was literally flattened by a mombe (Shona language for cow) a couple of hundred meters from our farmhouse. No dramatic tale of brave PH escaping from a buffalo attack. Just a domestic cow. Our mama Boran cow had a oneday-old calf, and for some reason she got really mad about our proximity to her youngster. I had turned my back on her to walk off, and next thing I knew she had smashed me to the ground, doing a good job of breaking
