The options available for navigation have continued to evolve over the years. Not that long ago a paper map with hand-written trip notes was the way it was done. Then GPS units become available and a brave new world was upon us. By utilising navigation software and planning your ride on a computer, which you could then transfer to the GPS, ‘following the purple line’ suddenly became a thing. The theory sounded great, but the technology could be tricky, to the point where not everyone fell in love with it, so out came the paper maps again!
With all the BMW Safari rides and events we stage, we have quite a bit of experience with route planning and on-bike navigation, so let us share what we have learned over the past ten or so years…
