Lovely leaves

In temperate to cold climates, crabapple leaves will be butter yellow, pretty but not so spectacular that tree enthusiasts will make a special trip to see them.

As far as I know, there has never been a debate about which tree has the most glorious autumn leaves, possibly because the contenders are so ephemeral. Or maybe it’s because the yield changes every year.

My favourites are the ones that produce autumn coloured leaves even in subtropical areas, though “the colder the winter to come, the better” is
