TRAINING FADS: FACTS OR FICTION?

the hubFitness

In the land of mountain bike that we all live in we are lucky to be slightly out of reach of conventional wellness culture advertising. While your mate may order a green smoothie or chia seed pudding at the post ride cafe, by and large the broader shapeshifting ‘wellness and fitness’ culture is more central to gym and health cultures.

That doesn’t mean that mountain biking and cycling are immune from jumping on fitness bandwagons, even if they are a little different from whatever the wellness zeitgeist deems is cool, like the David Goggins approach of “no pain no gain!” approach, or Gwyneth Paltrow’s rectally administered ozone therapy and coffee enema woo-woo.

Let’s go through some popular training fads we see within the performance sphere of mountain biking, and discuss their benefits and limitations.
