SHADES OF THE SEASON

very season has its charms, but there’s something about autumn that has always enchanted me more than the others. It’s a season of boundless beauty,’s editor, and I’m excited to be able to usher in my favorite time of year while introducing the newest collection of personal stories and beloved spaces our team has always delighted in sharing. In this issue, you’ll be introduced to homeowners who cherish cottage style as much as the rest of us and tour the homes they’ve filled with beauty and warmth. In “Sugar Hill Cottage” on page 45, you’ll see how a home’s history was embraced and built upon during much-needed renovations, and touring the Catskills garden in “The Lay of the Land” will encourage you to celebrate the unique flora of your very own backyard. Throughout this issue, you may notice a theme of picturesque places found in and around upstate New York, and if you find yourself yearning to explore the area’s many wonders, you’ll find a quick guide to planning a stay in the charming community of Hudson, where you can witness fall’s most inspiring displays in person. Whether you choose to venture out or elect to appreciate the allure of the season from the comfort of your home, I hope you find the following pages as inspiring as the season to come.
