Up and Walking

WHEN looking at the cherubic features of Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez, it is hard to determine which of his current roles is more incongruous with what you see: fighter or father. Then again, maturity is something often better represented by a man’s actions rather than by their face or age.

At 24, Rodriguez is proof of this. Young, in terms of both where he is professionally as a fighter, and also now as a father, he nevertheless shows the kind of maturity that not only belies his age but seems wholly out of place in a sport accustomed to its biggest stars acting like children. Indeed, Rodriguez subverts this trend; that is, he is a fighter who may look like a child but carries himself with all the professionalism and assurance of a man.
