Following numerous masterpiece designs for Triumph, Michelotti asked for a 2000 test mule for a special project, and the British firm agreed with the proviso that it got first refusal on the finished article. Shortening the 2000 to create a four-seater convertible proved a masterstroke; Triumph fell in love with the concept and within a few years, project Stag was underway.
