WHEN I was growing up we had a VH1 Divas Live CD at home. The track list included hits by the likes of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Céline Dion and we often played it in the car during drives and blared it through the speakers at family gatherings. I’d sing along – false but happy – to some of my favourite bops.

When Titanic came out and Céline’s My Heart Will Go On became a global hit, another family favourite was born. Even now I belt out the lyrics every time I hear that song. So when Céline announced she had stiff person syndrome in 2022, I joined the millions of fans around the world who were plunged into shock. Would she ever appear on stage again? How could such an iconic voice be silenced?
