TAKING part in a half-distance Ironman Triathlon isn’t for the faint-hearted: you have to complete a 1,9-km swim, a 90-km bike ride and a 21-km run. Preparations require a next-level training programme and hours and hours of commitment.
It’s a lot for the most able-bodied of athletes to take on, let alone one with a disability – but Edwin Nelson isn’t letting anything dim his determination.
Come November he’ll be lining up with hundreds of other competitors on the starting line of the Ironman in Mossel Bay – and he’s making sure he’ll be ready for this brute of a challenge.
Every morning he rises in the bone-chilling cold of Vanderbijlpark and heads to the
