A NEW kitchen garden!

A NEW KITCHEN GARDEN

I can't believe how much the veg garden has changed over the past month. Growing conditions have been good with warmth and some rain which has really boosted growth. I can't remember ever having potatoes as tall in all the years I've been gardening. Normally, I plant my first early potatoes in early April and start lifting from the end of June, but because the bed wasn't ready to plant until mid-May, it will be into August before the tubers will be ready to lift. Fingers crossed there are spuds under all those stems!

In the same bed I also grow carrots, beetroot and parsnips. Germination of all three was good, although as normal, the parsnips were the slowest to comecarrot fly was a problem and I always grew under insect-proof mesh to keep the carrots clean, but in our new garden we have no close neighbours that grow veg, so I'm risking not covering the plants!
