The Lambretta story in the UK is one of greatness and tragedy, from humble beginnings of just six staff in 1950 to employing more than 1200 people at its peak and of course its ultimate demise. The company involved, Lambretta Concessionaires, started trading from Haydon’s Road in Wimbledon, soon moving to bigger premises in Malden. However, even these new premises proved inadequate because as Lambretta sales began to increase, it became a logistical nightmare. More and more machines were being shipped over from Italy, and all of them needed be stored somewhere before they were despatched to dealers. The ever-growing operation also required a service station to prepare the machines and a warehouse to hold all the spares and accessories.
