In October 1947, the world was exposed to a new two-wheeled machine called the Lambretta. Created by Innocenti of Milan, the idea was to give the public cheap, affordable transport, which was much needed after the Second World War. There was strong competition in Italy from other manufacturers of small, lightweight motorcycles, not forgetting Piaggio’s Vespa, which had made its debut the year before. However, Innocenti was confident that its design would win the public over.
