GUITAR VIRTUOSITY is nothing new. It’s been around for decades, indeed centuries if we go back to classical composers and performers such as Luigi Legnani (1790-1877), Agustin Barrios (1885-1944), Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909) and Andrés Segovia (1893-1987), to name four.based technique, cultivated from classical guitar studies and bass playing, with influence and inspiration drawn from a list of artists that includes Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth, Jimi Hendrix and EVH. There have been stunning fingerpickers in the past but generally they’ve been nylonstring players like John Williams and Paco De Lucia. With Matteo there is an incredibly well-formed fingerstyle approach but it reaches the supersonic speeds of pick-based players like Paul Gilbert, Al Di Meola and Frank Gambale. His technique is clean, precise and broad as he rips linear lines like Gilbert, arpeggiates like Gambale and adds tapping to cascading shred licks like Vai.
