IS THIS a government of national unity (GNU) or selective unity?
That is the question being posed by prominent South Africans, after 10 political organisations signed up for the pact.
They comprise the ANC, DA, Patriotic Alliance (PA), IFP, GOOD Party, PAC, Freedom Front Plus (FF+), United Democratic Movement (UDM), RISE Mzansi and Al Jama-ah.
South Africans now eagerly await the appointment of Cabinet ministers.
However, the cracks are already starting to show, as the ANC and DA have not reached consensus on the appointments.
Speaking to the POST this week, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, founder of Gift of the Givers, said he fully-supported the idea of a GNU, on condition that it was a “government of unity”.
“Up until Friday, it was a government of ‘selective’ unity, as there were only four parties involved, which included the ANC, IFP, DA and FF+. Although the PA was invited, the DA had an objection.
