Eskom slammed over plan to increase electricity tariffs

ENERGY

Eskom’s plan to increase electricity tariffs by 36.5% in 2025 has been met with stiff opposition.

The South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) has opposed the proposed tariff increase.

Eskom said the delayed implementation of South Africa’s renewable programme had put pressure on it to increase its generation capacity.

If the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) approves the proposal, the increase will take effect on July 1, 2025.
