A WOLD WANDER
I recently attended the Wolds Bikers Run. This charity event has been organised by the Skellingthorpe club for several years, and the run is based around the Lincoln Aviation Heritage centre. This was an old military airbase and is home to Just Jane, a Lancaster bomber, anda Mosquito aeroplane–both of which take passengers on taxi runs.
I was pleased that it was dry on the Saturday morning of the run, so I had a nice ride there. On arrival,I went into the Naafi for a coffee and bacon roll and on the way out I was delighted to seea motorbike and sidecar, a Velocette witha sports chair. I've ridden outfits for many years and my local sidecar club attended this event many times. There isa campsite next door and the village pub is close by. What more could you want?
At these events you often meet so many people you know and it's nice to catch up with them again. One group I got talking to was the Robin Hood County Riders. They promote historic motorcycle events and had a fine display of racing bikes including a Seeley 7R replica, a 1962 Ariel Arrow production racer and several Jawa/ CZs. The oldest bike on display was a 1937 Royal Enfield Bullet and, for something a bit different, an Aermacchi sprinter.
The ride out covers about 50 miles around the county, with a break in the middle for refreshments. The first group of riders left at 11am, usinga very well written and clear route guide. Talking to the organisers, I found that nearly 400 riders turned up this year. Motorcycles
