Rare cats

1. Scottish wildcat

Habitat loss and hybridisation with domestic moggies has caused this population of European wildcats to become Critically Endangered, and there are perhaps only a couple of hundred left in the wild. In June 2023, 19 captive-bred individuals were released into the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands, and another 13 are set to be released this summer.
