Musician and songwriter Sophia Exiner, aka Phia, grew up with a love of choral singing. Her mum was in a choir, Phia was in the school choir, and as an adult, Phia wanted to start one of her own – just without the auditions, uniforms or hymns. Instead, the song list would include tracks from the likes of Ball Park Music, Radiohead and Grizzly Bear, and all would be welcome, including those ordinarily too shy to belt out a tune.
While living in Berlin in 2012, Phia began to bring her vision to life, founding the
