FINCHES
MOST of us have experienced the challenges of breeding birds and if those birds are for exhibition then you increase the level of challenge considerably.
In many years I enter the zebra finch breeding season with some trepidation and have reached the stage of almost expecting the worst! However, by contrast, this year I am wrapping up the breeding season with the general conclusion being: “That didn’t gobadly.” Near on 100 youngsters have been ringed and most are in my two main colours: normal and chestnutflanked white. Overall, CFWs are the dominant colour ringed this season. Usually I seem to be drowning in normal cock birds! But they are certainly fewer this season although I have already singled up three that I’ve deemed will be useful for next year.
