About this audiobook

The PI team of a deacon, a computer expert, and her grandmother returns in this twisty cosy mystery from the bestselling author of Murder Unexpected.

When DI Tessa Marsden is called to a road traffic accident, she is disturbed by the crime scene she must investigate. She now has a double murder to contend with; two dead girls from the same village.

Realising the murders aren’t linked, Marsden summons the help of the Connection Investigation Agency, run by Kat, a church Deacon, Beth, (known affectionately as Mouse), a computer expert, and Doris, Beth’s feisty grandmother.

When it is discovered that one of the murdered girls was pregnant the case takes an unexpected turn.

Can DI Marsden, with the input of Kat and Mouse, solve the case before another body appears?

Meanwhile, the agency has been asked to track down the long-lost son of Ewan Barker. Will Kat, Mouse and Doris find him and reunite him with his father?

This might just be their toughest investigation yet . . .

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a great series with interesting characters and suspenseful storylines. The writing is skillful and natural, and the plots are elaborated well. While some readers guessed the murderer early, it didn't detract from their enjoyment. The book is an easy and engaging read, with believable characters that maintain interest. However, a few readers were irritated by the conflicts of interest ignored by the main characters. Overall, this book is wonderfully written and narrated, with marvelous imagination and mystery. Readers look forward to more from this author and narrator.

The third book in the Kat and Mouse series does not disappoint. I love black belt Nan! Given the murders, the books can be dark, but there is always light and humor infused in them and a sense of warmth and hope coming from Kat, Mouse, and Nan.

I keep enjoying this series. In this one, I didn't realize who the killer was almost until the end. And I also liked the parallel stories.
These books can be read as standalones, but I recommend doing it in order so you follow how the relationship between these women starts and develops.
    On to #4!

Good mystery; I did not suspect the right murderer, and was looking at police staff pyschopath, but the Mum was just fine too. I love the casual, homelife style. Thanks so much for writing..I am a fan of the unwed mother, and being a mom myself experience the kind of trauma some do..so good stuff here...and I hope you keep writing ..this is my first book of Anita Waller, from Christmas gift of Scribd.

A great follow-up! I guessed the murderer early but that was because I was trying hard. ;) Excited for the next one.

A terrible book that justifies the abuse of an 18 year old girl by her step father. I am shocked and disappointed that this author explains and excuses the sexual abuse of a 45 year old man on am 18 year old. Blaming the victim and saying she seduced him is appalling. Seriously who thinks like this?

Interesting intertwining of characters with the multiple storylines. I figured out who one murderer was while police interviews were taking part earlier than revealed. This was merely a furthering of suspense to how they were going to be found out. Great narrating.

There were too many stories for one book. And much superfluous additions

I did like it but I was irritated by the rampant conflicts of interest just ignored by the three main characters in their agency especially dealing with the police.

I will miss Kat and Mouse. Those names put me off as I started the first book in the trilogy, worrying that this might be one of those treacly series that flogs a gimmick-- or flogs each plot into adhering to a gimmick-- until it becomes so much of a distraction that it interferes with the reading.
However, author Waller uses the unusual association of sleuths as a device around which to elaborate her plots, and the skillful naturalness of her writing makes even the occasional improbable and odd cliched situation into minor issues.
The number of potential suspects waxes and wanes as we are led to "like" first one, then another character for the crimes; the detectives do not solve crimes through sheer luck, ESP, or genius; and they do not survive near-death experiences in every installment. These elements work together as an ensemble of women collaborate with each others' particular abilities to sustain an ingenious mystery that stimulates and satisfies.
