- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful urban fantasy! Granted, the urban here is 19th Prague, but I love narratives that blend real life with the fantastical. Maybe I listen to and read too many books with "kickass heroines" who are mortals, witches, elves, etc. but it was refreshing to listen to a story set in the past. The female protagonist is a vampire, and the male protagonist, a "lamplighter," basically a vampire hunter. The story had such heartfelt moments--my favorite parts were with the captive will o the wisp, Kaja. If you enjoy fantasy and historical fiction, please listen to this beautiful, exciting novel. I'm about to start Jarvis' second novel, can't wait!
