What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a roller-coaster ride of twists and turns. The story is engaging and well-written, with multiple viewpoints adding an interesting twist. While some parts may seem silly, overall it is a good story. The ending is a shocker that leaves readers eager for more. However, there are a few negative reviews mentioning audio issues and dislike for certain characters. Despite these minor flaws, the book is enjoyable and keeps readers gripped until the end.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I’m glad I stuck it out. The twists and surprises at the end were worth it. I struggled for the first while because April was driving me crazy. Her character came off so annoying and I struggled to “listen” to her.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book!!!! I’m so happy I chose this one I loved the story line and the plot twist at the end perfect
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely loved this! I haven’t read/listened to a single book by Freida McFadden that I didn’t love, and this is no exception. I devoured this in less than a day. I love how Freida leads us to think one thing, and then completely flips everything on its head.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Absolutely loved this book and the narrator. Very good looking for more books by her
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5When the twist happened, I thought we would get everything tied in a bow but I have more questions than answers. By the way, the narrator is bloody talented.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This app is asking me “What could have made this better?” Answer: and EDITOR!
There were so many things wrong with this book. Unreliable narrator (this is how this author wrap up almost all of her books that I’ve listened to), no redeemable characters, poor writing, and grammatical errors, just to name a few. Also, this author doesn’t know the difference between “bring” and “take.” The characters bring lots of things with them. “I’ll bring _ to the meeting. I’m pretty sure they were taking, not bringing.
Out of all of the things listed, the unreliable (first person) narrator is the worst. This is m sloppy and lazy. But we already know this about the author. She’s too lazy or ignorant to hire an editor.
April’s character was so stupid that I wanted to punch the author. Her attorney husband tells her not to sign anything when dealing with theft, and then she signs something. The break-in scene was so stupid. No one breaks into someone’s house when they have to pick their child up from school. They also don’t leave their shoes by the door.
Lastly: the narrator mispronounces so many words. She pronounces “abdomen” as “andomum.”
Obviously, I don’t recommend this book. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not as good as the authors other books. Got boring in the middle.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great story with a twist at the end, I never would have guessed!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Most of the book I thought I knew the ending. Turns out…nope. Good book and story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I’ve read everything by this author and like them all obviously, however the ending for this one didn’t seem to be completed. It cut off just a little too soon after going into so much detail all through the book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love seeing the story from different perspectives. Not an easy guess.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was good! I didn’t expect some of the turns
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The last 3rd of the book was much better than the rest. The main character kept making those obvious, poor decisions, but once the narrative switches, the story really gets good with a twist I didn’t see coming.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Honestly left me like what did I just hear??? I need a an explanation. A reasoning a clearing of this , left my mouth open.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I don't rate books less than 2 stars. If I finished it then it must've been entertaining on some level. Honestly, I liked the confusion in the story but the ending was confusing and I believe unrealistic. Well, a lot of these books are unrealistic. It's not a bad read/listen. You'll keep listening because you want to find out who is actually behind these things so it's not a good book but I wasn't blown away.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Was pretty good. Ending was a little disappointing. Otherwise I enjoyed the story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked this book. It kept my interest. It has 2 view points and this was a nice twist. Some parts were silly, but overall a good story
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved all of the twists and turns in this book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved the book. I was engaged throughout. The ending kind of stumped me a bit though.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love a thriller and a twist and McFadden is the queen of a twist.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Every time I think I’ve figured out one of her plot twists, I’m always left shocked by what actually happens. This one made me so angry to the point that I almost didn’t finish it, but I’m glad I did!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great read so many twists and turns, oh and the ending is jaw dropping. It just took me awhile to get used to hearing the narrators voice at first it didn’t fit but as the book went on, you kinda get past it. Again AMAZING read ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5OMG!! I didn't see it comingggg. Freida how'd you do that.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent. Interesting and well wrote. Plot twist at every corner!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oh, wow! This was well written and well narrated. The story line and plot were easy to follow. I couldn’t walk away from this one, I had to know!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another great book! The narrator was excellent. Just read it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another good book by freida McFadden. This is my least favorite of the books of hers I've read .
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was a little hard to get into because I hated all the characters so much.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5HORRIBLE!! What a waste of 8+ hours of my life.
The narrators voice was very annoying.
The characters were bland and none of them were really likeable.
If I had to hear about April baking ONE MORE STUPID THING I swear to God..... WE GET IT! SHE BAKES!
The ending left a LOT to be desired, and we didn't even get the REAL ending until the EPILOGUE!? WHAT!?
This was my 2nd Feida McFadden book, and I think it will be my last. It's like her books are written for teenagers. Very vanilla. The characters in both books have been dumber than a box of rocks. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Lots of twists and turns. Did not see the ending coming at all
