About this audiobook

Road Rage unites Richard Matheson's classic Duel and the contemporary work it inspired—two power-packed short stories by three of the genre's most acclaimed authors. Duel, an unforgettable tale about a driver menaced by a semi truck, was the source for Stephen Spielberg's acclaimed first film of the same name. Throttle, by Stephen King and Joe Hill, is a duel of a different kind, pitting a faceless trucker against a tribe of motorcycle outlaws, in the simmering Nevada desert. Their battle is fought out on twenty miles of the most lonely road in the country, a place where the only thing worse than not knowing what you're up against, is slowing down . . .

The first short story was absolutely terrible. Nothing happens. It felt like listening to a NASCAR broadcast! The second one is bad too but not as bad as the first. And Stephen you’re my favorite author but you suck at making voices for your characters when you read. You can’t act either. However you’re an amazing author and person I met him a number of times as his house is just 2 hours from mine. I’ve been to his house and if anyone hasn’t seen his house in Maine you should because it’s beautiful and it has characters from his books. Off topic. The second story revolves around a group of outlaw bikers who suddenly find themselves at the behest of a madman driving a transport truck. What is it with Stephen and cars and/or trucks killing people? I can think of 4 now that I listened and followed along with a real book as this will never take the place of a real book. But at work I have to have this because I’d go insane lol. Anyway it’s a short listen there’s 3 authors involved. And my final thoughts are even though Stephen King is a legend. He’s also wrote over 100 books and collaborated with other authors as well he’s written screenplays that never made it to a book like the new Boogeyman movie. He wrote that. So with that said not everyone we read we will like. But most like 90% is just out of this world awesome. Remember he suffered a major injury that he shouldn’t have lived through. He was struck by a car and that really put the breaks on new work and when he started writing again it was like he was so focused on recovery. Which he should have been. That he didn’t have the room in his day to think of ideas. Cell was one of his first books after the accident and it kicks off great. But then it’s like he ran out of things to say so he winged it. But he’s back to form now with so many great books new and old King. And he is the King even better than H.P. Lovecraft.

A pair of stories about psycho truckers who terrorize people.

Really enjoyed the juxtaposition of these two stories (especially King’s father/son interpretation)

Really disappointing. Good storytelling, but mediocre art and overly simplistic stories that I feel have been told already in some shape or form... (Fast and Furious, Joy Ride, Death Proof, etc.) Maybe in book form it's much better...?

Whomever it was that had the idea of pairing these two stories was a genius!

DUEL from Richard Matheson is a classic horror tale about a man traveling down the highway, being terrorized by a maniac in a semi. This tale was a re-read for me, via audio. 5*

THROTTLE by Stephen King and Joe Hill. This novella length tale was new to me and I enjoyed it. Having paired these two stories together, I can't help but think that DUEL was the better of the two. THROTTLE was still good and a fun listen just the same. 3.5*

Recommended for a few hours of listening pleasure!

This collection contains Duel by Matheson and Throttle by King and Hill, both of which involve a scary truck on a highway. From an academic standpoint, Duel has a solid character arc, but as someone who lives in Northern Virginia, aggressive or even malevolent drivers are not nearly as unnerving to me as I think was intended for the reader. Throttle had a bit more meat to it, with a motorcycle gang and backstory and all that. In general, it was two decent stories but not something I'd necessarily recommend someone go out of their way to read.

    Duel - 3.75 stars
    Throttle - 2.75 stars

The suspense, angst and thriller aspects of these two novellas are beyond intense. I was definitely sitting on the edge of my seat. Especially with Duel, I almost had anxiety overload.
