About this audiobook

"Andy kept thinking about Mrs. Baskin's story, about the boy who cried 'Wolf!' As he saw it, his situation was just the opposite. He was crying, but about a real wolf. It was other people who were refusing to believe the truth ." -from Wolf Rider The telephone rings. You just pick it up without thinking. It could be anyone. But this time it's a killer and the killer's got a name-and a victim. When Andy Zadinski picked up the phone that evening, he was cool. Just keep him talking. But when he called the police, they didn't believe him. In fact, no one believed him, not even his father. After all, the whole thing was too weird to believe. Even Andy began to have doubts, until the killer started stalking him.

The book was pretty bad, but it was one of the better school novels we read. I thought it was wierd how on the first page, you know what the mystery was, but I wouldn't consider it a mystery because they giuve you the answer halfway through the book.

This book was on a middle school summer reading list. Not what I usually expect from Avi. Awfully dark. It is like a beginning thriller novel for teens. Not too scary, but still pretty intense. The writing does keep you engaged so you can see what is going to happen. The reality factor seems a little low and it is frustrating that his dad and the police are so unwilling to take him seriously.

Andy gets a phone call from a stranger, Zeke, confessing that he has just killed a college girl named Nina Klemmer. Andy tries to keep the stranger on the line while his buddy runs to another house to call the police and get them to trace the call. The police are unable to do that, and advise Andy that it was probably a prank. Andy understandably is extremely worried, but when nothing shows up in the paper in the next few days, he starts to relax. A combination of curiosity and concern cause him to try to look up Nina in his father's college phonebook. Andy's father is a professor at the local college. When Andy finds out that Nina is a real person, and that she is still alive, he fees obligated to warn her. She mistakes him for a crazy stalker, and reports him to the police. Eventually, Andy figures out the real identity of Zeke and cooks up a plan to save Nina and convince everyone that he is not the boy who cried wolf. The ending was my favourite part of the book, just because I didn't see it coming. This would be a good book for a reluctant reader as it is short, fast paced, and easy to read.
