About this audiobook
A top performance expert reveals the secret behind many top athletes and executives: creating a heroic alter ego to activate when the chips are down.
There’s only one person in the way of you untapping your potential: You. There’s also one person who can move you out of the way so you can perform at your peak.
That person is already inside you. You just need to unlock them. This other part of you is your Alter Ego. After twenty-one years of working with elite athletes, performers and leaders, Todd Herman has discovered how you can use your alter ego to achieve the seemingly impossible. It all clicked for Todd when he met Bo Jackson.
When Herman met Bo Jackson, the professional athlete told him, “Bo Jackson never played a down of football in his entire life.” Bo explained that when he was young, he’d get into trouble because chaos caused by his anger issues. Then, he saw Friday the 13th and became fascinated by the cold, calculating nature of Jason Vorhees. In that moment, he resolved to stop being Bo Jackson, and start being Jason the moment he stepped on the field.
In this transformative guide, Herman teaches you how to create and control an Alter Ego like Bo—and the thousands of other athletes, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and entertainers who have used this simple tool to change their lives. Herman also shares his own story: he knew that inside was a confident, self-assured, intelligent person who could help others get better results in their lives. When he started using superman’s classic trick—putting on a pair of glasses—he learned to trigger the specific traits he needed to achieve his goals.
The Alter Ego Effect is not about creating a false mask—it’s about finding the hero already inside you. It’s a proven way of overcoming the self-doubt, negativity, and insecurity that hold you back, and empowering you to ultimately become your best self.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Unlike most books that promise to improve you performance, sort of tell you what you need and always leave the most important bits out, the Alter Ego Effect tells you everything you need: exactly, step-by-step and in the end, you have that tool in your toolbox.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a very good book. The formula the Author has created is easy to understand and it builds upon things I was already doing but helped me focus my attention. I liked how the author used a concept many people already use but he fine tuned it from an idea into a skill.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was okay. While the main alter ego concept was interesting and promising, all the filler information felt like just a rehash of what most self-help books are all about: overcoming limiting beliefs. I feel like the content of this book could’ve been much shorter and more concise. It also felt kind of hard to follow at times.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing! Easy to understand, easy to apply, easy to see its power. Easy to use its power and easy to change your life to one you were born to live!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Not exactly what I'm use to reading..that's what made it great. A great angle on how you could deal with challenges.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Lots of good ideas, maybe 100 pages too long. Definitely worth the read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I think there is a lot of good advice in this book. And the ideas behind them seem solid. Enjoyed it a lot and started implementing some of the suggestions.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I have ever read! Excellent practice with tons of real examples! If there is something in your life your want to excell in, but you're afraid, have low confidence and ready to reflect and practice - then get this book! It will change your life!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Turned it off as soon as he started talking about superman etc... Haven't got time for that. I ain't 12.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book. I've been struggling to implement things I've been learning in other books into my every day life. Creating an alter ego to compartmentalize the traits I want into a nice package that I can activate when needed is exactly what I was looking for, but didn't know it until now.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book. Would read it again. Really helpful with personal development
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Loved this. Even if one doubts the potential upside and or results from this method, it is sure worth trying. A very compelling discussion to give the practical tips a go. A fan of super heros I can already see the Wonder woman in me arising. Olivia Pope, Olivia Benson, Miranda Bailey and Moroka Karabo personalities taking shape in me. Joni Lamb and Evelyn Joshua ... Oh I am enjoying creating my altar ego! A chisipiti is a fountain...life giving. Not an ocean nor a flowing river but chisipiti...a spring is one of the things I am embracing. I loved this book and will be ordering a hard copy for my physical library.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It’s incredible, everything that was talked about in the book. The way it’s explained, simple easy to follow and yet it’s informative beyond measure.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Mind-blowing. I’ve read so many books on self-help that I find it difficult to discover books that will teach me something new and inspiring. This one did. Best of all is that it’s also 100% practical and the author gives you clear step-by-step instructions on how to create an alter ego that works for you and a contingency plan for when you find yourself slipping back into your old self. And it’s fun!!
