What our readers think
Readers find this title enjoyable and engaging. They appreciate the author's storytelling and character development. The book keeps readers hooked and wanting to continue reading. Some readers miss the humor and sarcasm from previous books in the series. The narrator choice may not be the best fit for this particular series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I appreciate Ms Harper's style and story building. It has been awhile since I read/listened to a series by Ms Harper, not because I don't think she's good there are just so many books these days readily available that you could if you choose not reade the same author again (which I have done with some authors). All that said I'm glad I came back to read her books. I believe she invests a lot of time into the story and the characters and gets reader but in easily because of that. This book being the second in the series does an excellent job carrying the story along while allowing us to explore more about the characters and the world they inhabit. Are there times that I want to slap people upside the head for stupidity, sure, but I do that a lot in a variety of novels and am disappointed when the author makes the "strong characters" stupid, but who in our own lives haven't re-evaluated our own lives or those around us and wanted to do the same. I think those minor foibles make this particular series more endearing because you are cheering for the strong, yet over matched person/group to win. Ms Harper accomplishes this not only in word choice and personalities all while using strong sentences and prose construction. :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Keeps you listening and wanting to just listen for another chapter. Helen Harper does not disappoint with this series.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5while I like Helen Harper and her style, I miss the laugh out loud moments and the snarky sarcasm . Also, while Ruth Urquhart as a narrator, takes some getting used to, I loved her as Saffron as the fairy godmother and she will always be Saffron to me. I don`t think she was the best choice for this series
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I am quite enjoying this series. The concept is new and exciting. The characters are interesting too.
