About this audiobook
The personal lives of the British Royals were successfully kept out of the public eye by mutual agreement of the press and royal family, but this all changed in 1936 when King Edward VIII abdicated the throne and spurned his responsibility for the sake of the glamorous American socialite and divorcee, Wallis Simpson. In Princes at War, Deborah Cadbury reveals evidence that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor colluded with Hitler to take back the British throne from Edward's younger brother, King George VI, should Germany prevail in the War.
Drawing on new research and recently released files, Deborah Cadbury shows that not only did George VI have to battle to lead his country but battle constantly to keep his brothers, and especially his older brother, in check.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book makes clear the parts that different descendants of Queen Victoria played in early 20th century European history and what the aftermath of the war brought to them. Written well.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5World War II is on its way to England, a trying time for a man who did not plan on becoming king. This book is largely a history of WWII in England and as England saw it, with an emphasis on the royal family and the Duke of Windsor. Much of what I read I'd heard before, but there were some things I didn't know, particularly about the Duke, the abdicated king, and his role with Germany. The other royal brothers, Dukes of Kent and Gloucester, were also mentioned in their roles in the war. I found this book to be interesting and informative. I always appreciate a good book that teaches me something.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5As an American, "Princes at War" give little know view of WWII in England, focusing on King George VI who succeeded his brother who abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson. The remaining brothers -the Princes- all served England well, except Windsor who spent the war as Governor of the Bahamas, after futile efforts to gain the title Her Royal Highness for his wife Mrs Simplson.
