About this audiobook

Dr. Joss McNab needs a wife.

As if juggling surgery and being an instructor isn't enough, she's recently taken on a more demanding administrative role at the medical school that was named after her legendary father. To make things worse, she's now required to attend a growing number of galas, fundraisers, and conventions.

Wouldn't having a wife-a wife of convenience-help ease the burden that's threatening to overtake her world?

Sarah Young's heart belongs to painting. Much as she'd like to dismiss Joss's ridiculous proposal, the art world isn't paying well and she's running short on cash. Playing a trophy wife a few hours a week would cover her bills and still leave plenty of time to devote to her artwork.

The deal is struck. But will the convenient pairing turn into disaster or prove to be a stroke of genius? With feelings deepening and attraction undeniable, can two women who have agreed to settle discover that they could actually have it all?

Tracey Richardson

Tracey Richardson came to a love of books early on, thanks to a mother who took her and her two siblings regularly to the library in the Windsor area of Ontario, Canada, just across the river from Detroit. She even loves the smell of the ink and paper in books and to this day, when she opens a brand new book, she always gives it a good sniff! A journalist by trade, she worked at Ontario daily newspapers as first a reporter and later a copy editor. Semi-retired now, she finally has more time to devote to her fiction writing.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a good book that keeps them interested. The story is enjoyable and the characters are likeable. Some readers had issues with the narration, but overall, it is an easy read/listen. The book explores the fake relationship trope and follows the lives of Jos, a prominent heart surgeon, and Sarah, a struggling artist. The Southern mothers play a charming and interfering role in the story. While some aspects may remind readers of the movie Pretty Woman, it doesn't make the book bad. Overall, it is an entertaining and solid take on the genre.

3.5 stars. Entertaining enough, though not nearly as good as Thursday afternoons. This is a solid take on the fake relationship trope. 38 year old Jos is a prominent heart surgeon who has followed in the footsteps of her esteemed father, now deceased. Her career is everything, and she has accepted that love and a relationship will never be on the cards for her. Sarah, 29, is a 'starving artist' who has been struggling to find success in the competitive Nashville art scene. Despite her talent and diligence, she is unable to support herself financially. Her father's handouts are not destined to last, so she needs another way to supplement her income in order to pursue her dream.
Enter the two women's typically Southern mothers (stepmother in one case) who put their charming and interfering natures to excellent use.
The story was enjoyable, though at times the predictability made me roll my eyes. What kept me hooked, is Richardson's writing skills and the way in which she does family conflict with insight and empathy. There were healthy dises of humour and excellent love scenes.
I listened to the audiobook read by Lori Prince. I was not enamoured of her interpretation of Jos. She sounded a bit too late 20's geeky butch instead of 38 year old intoverted heart surgeon to me, but that could be a matter of taste.

I will most likely end up just reading the book on my own. The narration was awful. Not sure why, but her voice just annoyed me, and i couldn't finish it. But the story itself was good.

Soooo good! I wasn’t set on reading this and chose it as a time filler while spring cleaning but quickly found myself sucked in. Thankfully the Pretty Woman focus was short lived and the the character development and relationship story evolved. I almost quit during the shopping scene when Sara started to accessorize Joss’s power suits with scarves and jewelry, it just didn’t make sense to me. I’d be interested to know the author’s inspiration for Joss. It seems much different than the narrator’s. I swoon over Lori Prince’s androgynous/masc presenting lesbian and non-binary characters. I fully expect people I meet to live up to her interpretation and feel duped when they don’t. :)

Sounds pretty much like the movie “Pretty Woman”. Which it basically is.
But doesn’t make it bad. You heard both sides of story. And keeps you entertained.
Id say it is an easy read/listen.

The narrator is very good until...
There comes a love scene and the characters always sound as if they were crying. Somehow makes all the love and erotic parts quite comic and frustrating at times.
