About this audiobook

When a storm wreaks havoc on bookish Lena's well-ordered world, her laid-back new neighbor, Megan, offers her a room. The trouble is they've been clashing since the day they met. How can they now live under the same roof? Making it worse is the inexplicable pull between them that seems hard to resist. A quirky romance, laced with classic British humor, about the power of opposites attracting.

Contains mature themes.

Author

A.L. Brooks

A.L. Brooks currently resides in London, although over the years she has lived in places as far afield as Aberdeen and Australia. She works 9-5 in corporate financial systems and spends many a lunchtime in the gym attempting to achieve some semblance of those firm abs she likes to write about so much. And then promptly negates all that with a couple of glasses of red wine and half a slab of dark chocolate in the evenings. When not writing she likes doing a bit of Latin dancing, cooking, travelling both at home and abroad, reading lots of other writers’ les-fic, and listening to mellow jazz.

Differences, strengths and weaknesses can forge a great couple
I listened to the audiobook, which can make it hard to judge the writing, but it seemed fine. I liked both main characters and also the supporting characters. It's a kind of intense story while also being pretty light. I really liked how each character matured and thought about and discussed their emotions. They are different characters but I understood how they were as individuals, and also how they worked as a couple. I'm not always fond of enemies to lovers as a trope, because the early conflicts can make one or both characters unlikable. That didn't happen here. I understood why the characters reacted as they did. So much of what happened just flowed from their personalities and flaws. I found it an enjoyable and compelling story. The ending is happy and romantic but leaves a lot of the story untold. That's not a flaw, just an observation. I think I would enjoy hanging out with the main characters. They both had some foibles but also some great strengths, and they obviously care about each other.
