About this audiobook
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Divine Rivals comes a story about magic, vengeance, and the captivating power of dreams. A must-read for fans of The Hazel Wood and The Night Circus.
The realm of Azenor has spent years plagued by a curse. Every new moon, magic flows from the nearby mountain and brings nightmares to life. Only magicians—who serve as territory wardens—stand between people and their worst dreams.
Clementine Madigan is ready to take over as the warden of her small town, but when two magicians arrive to challenge her, she is unknowingly drawn into a century-old conflict. She seeks revenge, but as she gets closer to Phelan, one of the handsome young magicians, secrets—as well as romance—begin to rise.
To fight the realm’s curse, which seems to be haunting her every turn, Clementine must unite with her rival. But will their efforts be enough to save Azenor from the nightmares that lurk around every corner?

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a stunning and enchanting book with a unique and interesting world. The characters, especially Clementine, are phenomenal and the romance is perfect. While some reviewers found the ending lackluster, overall it is highly recommended and considered a masterpiece. The premise of the story, with dreams and wardens, is praised for its uniqueness. Although there were some confusing parts and moments that dragged, readers were spellbound from the first few pages and gave it a 5-star rating.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What an amazing book! The story and characters pulled me in quickly and I was truly sad to part ways after the last chapter.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow! What an adventure! I was captivated through the whole book, but that ending!!!!! Can’t wait to reread this awesome story!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was really really good. But the ending is a little lack luster. Love all her other works, but this books ending fell a little flat for me. Otherwise I would have given it a 5/5
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a beautiful, enchanting book. I was spellbound from the first few pages.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a stunning book! It’s a long story full of twits, turns and magic. I absolutely loved every second of it. Clementine was a phenomenal character to follow and the romance was perfection. It is a super unique and insanely interesting world.
I loved the magic system, and the setting! I love the idea that nightmares walk the street once a month, and there are these wardens who guard the people from them. The idea and execution of this book is phenomenal. It was a long read, but not once did I loose interest. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is a masterpiece. I highly recommend this enemies to lovers. One of my favorite reads for 2022.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked the premise of this story and there were parts of it that were so good. I thought the plot with the dreams and the wardens was really unique. I liked Clem but I felt what she did was quite the extreme thing to do to get revenge. I loved Phelan but at times I felt he needed to stand up to his mother and be the man he truly was. I would’ve liked to have gotten to know her mother more and what she could all do. I liked the mystery behind the knight, and it actually was pretty surprising when that was revealed. There were parts that were so confusing, like I had to pause a couple times and be like wait, what, and try to figure out exactly what was happening at that moment. There were parts of the story that dragged way too long but all in all it was a good and interesting story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love it!!! This is my first 5 stars for the year.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Deep, dark and satisfying, a story where everyone has secrets and many are not who/what they seem. Clementine starts out with revenge as her goal, but the longer she is with Phelan, the more she must question her motives, who he truly is and what he wants. The mysterious realm locked away from the world for so long becomes a player itself, as more and more surprises are revealed. Plenty of tension and intrigue make this story flow well. A dandy choice for libraries that care about offering intelligent teen readers a good tale.
