About this audiobook
Right now I wasn't seeing Richard as the teacher out of my nightmares, he was just another Dark mage, and I looked into the future to see what would happen if I turned that knife on him instead . . .
Alex Verus is still haunted by his time apprenticed to Richard Drakh. He's been free of him for many years, but now the only way to keep his friends from being harmed is to again work for Richard and his deadly ally. Even worse, he's forced to bring the Light mage Anne into this servitude as well.
After weeks of being hunted and finally cornered into what he thought was his last stand, Alex never thought his life would be spared-and never anticipated at what price. This time, the diviner can see no way out . . .

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5All Alex Verus wanted was a quiet life running his shop, helping people occasionally find out that there were others like them and basically doing the best he could to stay out of trouble. But the dark mage he apprenticed to is back and has manouevered him into a position where he has to work for him or lose everyone he cares for.He did try running away but his enemies kept finding him. Now he's trying to keep from gathering more enemies and work out what his future could hold.I like it, I can see where Alex is coming from and where most of his enemies are coming from and I can see that they can see logic in it all. His master has a long-game that he's playing and it's very very complicated. I like how Alex has to face up to the fact that he cares for some people and admit to them that he cares.I really enjoy this series. I can see why Alex is having to grow, reluctantly, but it's not easy and it's not a given that he will survive. I want to know what happens next.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Ahhh! I love this series. And Jacka just keeps ramping things up. He reallu ended this one on a cliff hanger and now I have to wait for like another year or two to read the next one. Not fair.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Honestly, this installment is a little clunky -- it was hard to remember all the details from previous books, and Alex's insistence that he should be able to predict every possible scenario but that his friends shouldn't beat themselves up about the same, unrealistic expectation is a little... well, Diviner check thyself?
But as per usual, once I got into the story I just absolutely could not put it down, and was delighted (what, what last page reveal!?!?!?) and appalled (oh, Anne!) at the continuing adventures of our heroes. Yay for Luna reviving the magic store, yay for Arachne and her tough loving /figure it out, Alex speeches, yay for a new bubble world of safety. Not entirely sure what to make of the dark mages suddenly seeming so reasonable, but I expect that discomfort is exactly what Jacka wants us to contemplate. It's a mess, what happens next? Can't wait! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow! I love that the Alex Verus series is always filled with action and dire situations. Bound starts right where the previous book, Burned, left off and I do so enjoy the title that has been chosen for this book. Alex is absolutely bound by circumstances in this book and there is no wiggle room for the choices he must make. Having already lost everything, there is very little that Alex has left to lose, except his friends. It is this threat, the promise of death to everyone he cares for, that moves this story along.Never before has Alex Verus been in such a position that he truly has to submit himself to the will of his enemies and I am not talking about just for the moment until he comes up with a plan. He is living out a true nightmare and Anne has been dragged along as well. This story is quite dark and adds a whole new complexity to this series. There are circumstances encountered that can never be undone and monumental changes in Alex and the other characters of this series.Unlike the previous books, the time period of this novel is quite spread out. The importance of this time spread is to allow events to unfurl as there are some long-term plans that come into play. There were no quick solutions but the plot is one to keep you on the edge of your seat! This story is filled with misdirection and there are no situations that are pleasant. There are portions of this story that are spent in the Hollows and the Elsewhere. Even more exciting is that Alex learns a new skill in this book. It brings the possibilities for the story development to the next level. Not only that, Anne’s story in this book will make you shudder and it really adds impact to the ending. I need the next book now because I just have to know what happens next. Yes, the ending was a cliff-hanger and I am dying for the next installment. Another fantastic addition to this series and you need to read this story! This review is based on a complimentary book I received from NetGalley. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love this series!! Narrator is superb. Love the twists and turns.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good, not great. Firmly a "middle book", that didn't resolve the climax of the last book, and only added more complications at the end of it. I devoured it all in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down, but I spent a lot of time going "Alex is a diviner. Why can't he plan more than 15 minutes into the future?" He remains very reactive, very much a pawn in other people's schemes, and, while he knows he needs to change that, I didn't see much sign of that happening soon.
