About this audiobook

It is Earth year 2223, but the Earth, along with the entire solar system, is gone.

Liam and Phoebe, having barely escaped our exploding sun with their lives, are in stasis for the decade-long journey to the rogue planet Delphi, where they hope to meet up with the rest of the human refugees, find help for their injured parents, and pass along the devastating things they discovered on Mars: that someone destroyed their world intentionally, and that that someone might still be after them, trying to finish the job.

Phoebe is carrying her own dark secret. One that finds her waking up secretly at various points in their journey, changing their path through space. One that will decide the fate of the human race, and many more besides. One that, very soon, she must reveal to Liam, whether he's ready for the truth or not.

Phoebe and Liam awake from stasis as their ship approaches Delphi, where they hope to rendezvous with the starliner Scorpius. However, the station has been attacked and destroyed and the Scorpius is missing. Liam discovers that Phoebe has been keeping a huge secret from him.

I liked this book. It wasn't as good as the first in the series. Last day on Mars found a way to get an interesting story out of only one day, while this one too over 30 years. It was a little disheartening that it felt like the whole first book was taken out of effect by the actions in the first chapter being told from Phoebe's perspective.Otherwise as a stand alone story it's good. An entire alien population is eliminate by human society bombs in hopes of making their planet inhabitable for human life The remnant of that population attempts to destroy the human race to make up for it. A third rent may be the real cause trying to destroy many stars. A little wonky time travel has minimal impay on the story line.

My son and I read the first book, Last Day on Mars, and immediately ordered this sequel. It was just as exciting, but this book is definitely a little more brain bending as Liam and Pheobe dabble in the space/time continuum. Now alone in space, trailing the Scorpius, Liam and Pheobe are trying to figure out who blew up the last station, who is "the Drove" and what do they want, and is humanity's migration plan really safe and secure? Unfortunately book three isn't out yet, so once you speed through the first two you'll have to sit tight and await the third, The Shores Beyond Time (Chronicle of the Dark Star), due out Feb 12, 2019.
