About this audiobook
People often ask Sarah, "How did you forgive your alcoholic mother?"
How do you forgive someone who carelessly brushed aside your pain, who caused such destruction, and who doesn't show remorse? How do you know when to stay and when to go?
In The Complicated Heart, you will travel through Sarah's story with her, from age fourteen and beyond, as she wrestles with these very questions. Prepare yourself: she holds nothing back.
If you've struggled with a difficult relationship, if you've felt torn-up and crazy and confused because of it, if you just want to know how to move forward and be okay, this story is for you.
Dysfunction does not have to be your destiny or your identity.
Victory is on the table.
What's more: you'll not only travel with Sarah, you'll travel with her mom as well as you hear her mom's journal entries and letters. What goes on in the mind of the person who hurt you the most? In this story, you'll get a rare peek into that mind and heart.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So excellent Sarah Mae, you stirred my heart with your writing and forever marked a path towards forgiveness and peace in my soul that I never had expected.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It so painful to listen. Thank God for His grace that Sarah and her mom can again found hope in life through Christ. A love that preserver despite the going gets tough. Thank you for sharing Sarah.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I think the main reason I liked The Complicated Heart as much as I did is because I appreciated the author's raw honesty. I would imagine that had to be a hard story to tell and that it caused memories to resurface she didn't want to think about. But it is a story that needed to be told. Her story is one of reconciliation and forgiveness with an alcoholic mother. The author extended so much grace to her mother in order for healing to take place. Sarah Mae had to set some pretty difficult boundaries with her mother and see her mother for the broken person she was in order to forgive and have a relationship with her mother.I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
