About this audiobook

One day, the power goes off and the world falls silent. And in two very different parts of America, two very different nightmares are about to begin. In Manhattan, Elizabeth and her brother Henry are all alone in their parents' apartment. Looking out the window, they can see the carnage slowly spreading through the city. But as hopes fade for their parents to come back, Elizabeth and Henry discover that dangers might already have entered the building. Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, Thomas and his family live on an isolated farm. They too have noticed that something has changed, and a chance encounter on a deserted road leads to a moment of pure horror. An infection is spreading, and soon more victims begin to fall.

There are about 12 people left alive and all 12 of them are bumbling idiots. Really? This author thinks the use of the F word in almost every sentence will somehow make the book more interesting perhaps but it was so overused it was ridiculous. I kept wishing I were on the last chapter so it could be over. There were about 2 chapters worth of good plot stretched into 30 chapters. This was a horrible waste of time. Find a different book and don’t even start this one folks.

Heads up, I have gone on to read two more in the series.
So my first issue is the main characters in the book. They are all acting pretty juvenile. In New York we have two siblings and in OK we have two siblings. They are pretty similar in age. There's a good sibling and a trash sibling. The good sibling is a total wuss. Next issue is that the author is clearly not an American but the book is set in America. Shouldn't be an issue, but it is. The lingo is different. We don't say properly we say really or totally. We use imperial measurements so everytime the author says something is so many meters or kilo my brain immediately tries to work out how much it is and it pulls me from the book. Am I continuing the books? Sure. I have to finish what I start. Would I recommend the books? Absolutely not.

Disclaimer I did not finish this book. I couldn’t. I think a lot of other review stated that the writing and therefore narration were very amateurish. It’s as if this was written by a teenager. If she’s 21 why is she acting like she’s 13. It was just all a bit unbelievable the way the apocalypse occurred simultaneously etc. and I had a feeling the author was not going to give us an explanation like alien invaders so I couldn’t really believe the zombie aspect of the story. It’s too bad I very much enjoy when zombie books get into the aspect of holding up somewhere and getting supplies etc.

I appreciated the fact that the author was not hesitant to show many different personalities and archetypes. They did a good job showing what it would likely be like to be young and for lack better word "privileged" enough to live a "bubble" and then have to deal w/ not only the world outside for the first time-but also the tragedy of the situation. It would be completely normal for at least the girl to be little clueless... but unless you have lived in the 'private school world" I can see how it would be difficult to relate to her world and yes she is not as mature in the "world"... she hasn't had to do much yet w/our someone looking out for her. I think she tried her best in the given situation.

The two bothers and the culture they grew up in... they also had to learn how to deal w real tragedy ... and esp. the younger brother.. realizing someone you looked up to your whole life may not actually be that good of a person morally speaking. I don't agree that he was juvenile at all..he actually showed a lot of guts and seemed kind-hearted... which in HIS world may be looked on as immature. I think he just has not lost his innocence quite yet until he sees and deals with things.
They painted Bob well w his creepiness and I def got a vibe similar to Telltales "the walking dead" video game. I did not particularly care for how the author painted guns as "bad" -especially in this scenario. So a little politics thrown in there.
I don't necessarily care for the harsher language from the girl as there is no real reason the she (from that status and way she was brought up) would speak that way in those situations (almost like the author wanted to 'toughen up' the story adding the language in there). I don't think a 16 yr old boy would act like her bro did...he should have been 12! But all in all a light and good read in a genre I love.
Not sure if I would physically read it... but it made for a good story while chilling out on my day off playing games, etc.I'll def listen to the next:)

Really good build up, was at first a bit anoyed that a 21year old girl was so pathetic and uvenile, but that eased at the end as she finaly started to think. And the two brothers...
    wow! So horrifying. So addictive.

I hate how weak, submissive, and ignorant the main female character is! Good story line but jeez!
