The #1 New York Times bestselling author presents a gripping new thriller that pits homicide detective Eve Dallas against a conspiracy of exploitation and evil…
New York, 2061: The place called the Pleasure Academy is a living nightmare where abducted girls are trapped, trained for a life of abject service while their souls are slowly but surely destroyed. Dorian, a thirteen-year-old runaway who’d been imprisoned there, might never have made it out if not for her fellow inmate Mina, who’d hatched the escape plan. Mina was the more daring of the two—but they’d been equally desperate.
Unfortunately, they didn’t get away fast enough. Now Dorian is injured, terrified, and wandering the streets of New York, and Mina lies dead near the waterfront while Lt. Eve Dallas looks over the scene.
Mina’s expensive, elegant clothes and beauty products convince Dallas that she was being groomed, literally and figuratively, for sex trafficking—and that whoever is investing in this high-overhead operation expects windfall profits. Her billionaire husband, Roarke, may be able to help, considering his ties to the city’s ultra-rich. But Roarke is also worried about the effect this case is having on Dallas, as it brings a rage to the surface she can barely control. No matter what, she must keep her head clear--because above all, she is desperate for justice and to take down those who prey on and torment the innocent.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a gripping and realistic murder mystery series. The recurring characters are beloved and the books are gritty and well-written. The author tackles tough subjects like socio-economic disparities and illegal smuggling with skill. The narration is excellent and the storyline is tough but great. Overall, this is a highly recommended series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5How Eve and the whole gang handle real life events and bring justice to life.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I don't know how JD Robb does it. After so many books in the "In Death" series, you'd think she'd run out of ideas. I loved this one partly because there wasn't very much ink dedicated to character development, while still enough to satisfy my curiousity regarding what they're up to right now - since I have read all the books up to this point. Not a lot of surprises near the end, but a good ending all the same. I like how the author tackles socio economic disparities in some of the main characters, drawing a distinction between what circumstances a person has thrust upon them and what do they control in their lives - which shapes their worldview and goals. Other issue tackled is the illegal smuggling of underage girls from outside the country as well as child pornography and kidnapping local girls. Tough subjects but handled well - don't feel like I'm slogging through the plot. Some classic JD Robb humour as well.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Eveythig I have read every one of “In death series “ more than once and I think this could be the best my Congregation to the author
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent narration. Great but tough storyline. Eve and Roarke are fabulous characters. ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I've just finished listening too the entire "In death" series and can confirm, this is the BESt book yet! So sad I have to wait till next year for the next book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a really good but very disturbing story omg sad
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So well written. A very difficult current topic that doesn't receive enough press coverage.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have listened to every one of the In Death Series. I love each of the recurring characters; they’re like family! I cannot stress enough how great these books are. They’re gritty and have realism even though they’re science fiction-murder mysteries. Each book could stand on its own but I suggest starting at the beginning so you get to know the characters.
