About this audiobook

Sky’s small town turns absolutely claustrophobic when his secret promposal plans get leaked to the entire school in this witty, “earnest, heartfelt” (Becky Albertalli, New York Times bestselling author), and ultimately hopeful debut novel for fans of What if it’s Us? and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Sky Baker may be openly gay, but in his small, insular town, making sure he was invisible has always been easier than being himself. Determined not to let anything ruin his senior year, Sky decides to make a splash at his high school’s annual beach bum party by asking his crush, Ali, to prom—and he has thirty days to do it.

What better way to start living loud and proud than by pulling off the gayest promposal Rock Ledge, Michigan, has ever seen?

Then, Sky’s plans are leaked by an anonymous hacker in a deeply homophobic e-blast that quickly goes viral. He’s fully prepared to drop out and skip town altogether—until his classmates give him a reason to fight back by turning his thirty-day promposal countdown into a school-wide hunt to expose the e-blast perpetrator.

But what happens at the end of the thirty days? Will Sky get to keep his hard-won visibility? Or will his small-town blues stop him from being his true self?

Editor's Note

Overflowing with Pride…

Being openly gay in a small town is hard, and Sky’s certainly seen his fair share of hardship: His mom kicked him out and he’s constantly hiding burn scars from an accident. Still, Sky is determined to make his senior year great with an epic promposal, even when homophobic hackers try to ruin that, too. A book that’s overflowing with Pride.

Read for Buzzwordathon - Elements [Air (sky)].

Perfectly fine YA read overall, not one I can imagine re-reading or that will stay with me for too long. It touched upon what could have been hard hitting themes without diving into them emotionally, giving the novel quite a surface level comfort feel.

I had a few niggles about some phrases but nothing too bad.

    5* for Michael Crouch narration.
    3* for story.

I thorougly enjoyed this story. It took me on an emotional ride as events unfold at a rapid pace at times, with believable, relatable and lovable characters to boot.

Within a genre of sometimes overly cheesy romance stories this felt a bit more real than others to me.

Beautiful! Just beautiful. But quite sad because Teddy doesn’t get that well deserved “screen time” tho but I totally understand why. Thank you for writing this amazing story Robbie Couch. ?

I loved the focus on friendship and enjoyed the narration. However, the ending came way too fast and it felt incomplete.

You know when you listen to an audiobook, minding your own business and don't even realize you have all these goofy expressions on your face until people repeatedly ask you what's up? It isn't until then you've been smiling for like five minutes..Or after significant periods of quietude, you burst out laughing and make someone else nearby super uncomfortable? And not even because anything was funny but the emotions just bubbled out and you play it off like it was funny. Or when your eyes tear up and you want to cry but try to play it off like a strong, silent, emotional stealth ninja? It was totally just a bug in my eye, I'm fine. Really.

That's this book. It wasn't ever boring. Robbie Couch did a fantastic job of narrating this book, which was fabulously written by Michael Crouch, so how's that for confusing? With earbuds, I binge-listened to this audiobook without ever feeling bored or cringe. I feel like I went on this emotional journey of self-discovery but it didn't leave me wounded, wanting more, or like I wanted to sit in a dark room until I processed the complexities of life-- unlike some books. You know, Post Literary Pit of Existential Doom-holing. It happens to the best of us. No? Maybe it's just me...ok then.

Anyway, now I'm off to listen to whatever else this author has on audio and looking forward to getting to know some new characters, with -at least- a little hope I won't be left bored or utterly shattered at the end of another well-crafted story.

I will admit the start was a bit hard to get into however, the overall story was wonderful. I love that Sky is slowly finding his place.

I thought it will be a romance book, but no, the romance is actually the subplot. This story is about so much more. Perfect for Simon vs. and Felix Ever After fans.

This was an amazing book, I wish we had these when I was growing up. Being 31 and finally finding myself is hard but books like this make me feel like I’m not alone. Thank you Mr. Couch for this amazing wonderful story. I look forward to more of your books. You’ve got a fan for life.

I liked this book at ton more the I thought. I was hit a bit hard with the whole homophobia thing because I didn't read the summary but it was okay. It caused all this feelings inside me and I wasn't a fan but it okay. I know what it is like to lose a parent young so I can relate to what Sky is going though. The ending didn't do it for me. I wished there was a bit more to show the impact of what happened
