What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a good book, despite some technical issues with the audio narration. The story is loved by those who enjoy romance, and it is recommended as a must-read for romance lovers. However, there are occasional audio cuts that can be frustrating. Overall, the book is enjoyable and worth reading.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I was looking forward to this book but the narrator’s tongue clicks between and during words. I’ll have to read the book. Narration is everything when listening.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved this book. The Sullivan’s rock. A must read for anyone who loves romance.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Audio cuts out randomly. Time keeps going but you can’t hear words. Then it comes back a minute later, further ahead in the story.
It’s a good book though. I hope someone in tech support can fix the issue. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great fun! She manages to give you low-brain-power entertainment, but with wit and a lot of humour, without getting too sloppy on the romance side of things. Did I mention steamy sex? :) This is what the story is about: Three siblings embark on a quest to re-unite 3 parts of a mythical statue. They are not sure that it even exists, but they are determined to find out and try. From Ireland they travel to Eastern Europe, Helsinki, New York, to follow clues and find romance, adventure and a deadly enemy...
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was another excellent romantic suspense title by Nora Roberts. It was like her trilogies all in one book. It starts with the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915. A petty thief steals a statue from a rich man just as the torpedo hits. He saves a young woman and her three-year-old child and manages to survive himself. A changed man, he lives is life in Ireland.Almost 100 years later, his descendants Malachi, Gideon, and Rebecca need to recover the treasured statue which was stolen from them by an unscrupulous antiques dealer. They also want to find the other two statues that were part of the set.Malachi's search leads him to Tia Marsh - a descendant of the original owner who died on the Lusitania. Tia is a Ph.D. who is also a hypochondriac and germaphobe because that's the way her mother raised her. Gideon goes after Cleo Toliver who is a descendant of someone who likely had the second statue back in 1915. She's currently stripping in a club in Prague after being dumped and robbed by her boyfriend and looking to earn enough money to get back to New York.Jack Burdett has the third statue inherited from his great-grandfather - the little boy the thief saved. He's a security expert and has a world-wide security company. When Anita Gaye - the unscrupulous antiques dealer - calls him to try to track down Cleo, he travels to Ireland, meets Rebecca, and gets involved in the hunt. The was an excellent heist story as the six heroes need to trick Anita Gaye out of the statue she stole from Malachi and also prove that she murdered Cleo's friend in her quest to gain control of all three of the Fates. It was also an excellent romance novel since all the characters fall in love. Nora Roberts' talent for writing strong characters, strong stories of friendship, and strong romances is very visible here.Bernadette Quigley did an excellent job with the narration and distinguishing all of the main characters vocally.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5For some reason just could not get into this book. Ending was better. Not one of my favorites.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The Fates are three silver statuettes representing Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. Owning the complete collection of three would render anyone wealthy. One of the three was allegedly lost with the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915. However, when this statuette shows up it leads art historians and collectors alike to begin searching for the other two. The reader is introduced to the cast of six characters who resolve to reunite the three, throwing in a little romance along the way.
I normally do not pick up Nora Roberts books on my own but am quite often handed them by a girlfriend. When I do read them I find I enjoy her books and especially her dialogue. Ms. Roberts often has me wishing I could think that quickly on my feet and participate in some witty repartee. It was a fun read. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If you like Nora Roberts Romance. Then you will probably enjoy. Predictable, but enjoyable enough without getting to intense and can listen to in the background as I work.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nora Roberts can write a good romantic novel full of suspense and action. The Three Fates tell the story of three families linked by the Fates, three silver statues from the Greek mythology. Greed, passion, action and history are entwined together in a way that only Nora Roberts can deliver.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of my favorites from Roberts so far. I really enjoyed all of the characters and wanted the villian to pay dearly for her mean ways.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love love love this book! I read this book a few years ago, and it was even better this time around! Mythology, romance, humor and action! What more could you want in a great book?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What an easy to story this was to listen to, I loved it from start to finish - I didn't want to put it down and I didn't want it to finish. This is the way life should isn't it?The Lusitania sank off Ireland in WWII and on board was Henry Wyley who was carrying one of the Three Fates, a set of 3 silver statues of Greek Mythology, that join together at the base, singly they would be worth a lot of money together they would be worth a fortune. Felix Greenfield was a thief on the run from the police in the US heading home to England - he was a surivivor and he had the fate in his pocket when the ship sank. Afterwards he was changed man.Move on nearly 100 years and three of his decendants Malachi, Gideon & Rebecca Sullivan, are trying to put the three fates together. Their journey takes them from Cobh in Ireland to Helsinki, Prague and New York. Malachi Sullivan has lost the fate the family owned when he was duped by Anita Gaye, owner of Morningside Antiques, he had given it to her for evaluation. His journey takes him to Helsinki to a decendant of Henry Wyley, Tia Marsh, who is an expert on Greek Mythology and a hypochondriac intot the bargain. Gideon goes Prague in search of Cleo Toliver, who is working as an exotice dancer as she is a decendant of someone who was rumoured to own one of the fates and Jack Burdett, a multi-millionaire security expert, goes to Ireland in search of the Sullivans and finds Rebecca. They all end up back in New York where they make plans to find the three fates and put them together.Fast-paced adventure enthralls the reader following the fascinating characters as they travel across Europe and back to New York again in this sizzling romance. Nora Roberts' ability shines as she creates six unique and appealing characters whose differences accentuate their strengths.
