About this audiobook

I'm not a mage, but that won't stop me.

Cori Catastrophe. They call me that sometimes, and I hate to admit it, but it isn’t wrong. Things go weird around me. Electronics die, things break, and if something odd happens, I seem to find it. Finding another dead body just made me late to work.

Nothing will stop me from getting my degree, getting a job, and getting away from this tiny town – though leaving my best friend will hurt more than anything else. Reality seems determined to make reaching my goals impossible. The dead guy had my name in his pocket, my best friend emerges as an archmage, and my parents – well let's just say leaving them behind is one of the best parts of getting away.

So be it. Not being a mage means I'll have to struggle to succeed. No matter how weird things get, I'll make it. I lost my brother and I'll probably lose my best friend to the world of magic. All I can do is depend on myself.

But with my luck, that might be difficult.

It took me a bit to get used to the narrator but I really enjoyed this series. Interesting likeable characters and interesting, diverse story. I really recommend it.

This book was so good! In a world where magic is real, the main character fights her family and preconceived ideas about what really makes a person and comes out ahead!

The fact she "just won't get tested" being one of the main explanations for the plot is so so annoying.
Also, oh her best friend is so hot and perfect, her friends hate her etc
Everyone cares but not enough to actually do anything, which is all good for the plot.
Basically, the author relays on extremely unlikely set of circumstances to help hold a weak and an uninteresting plot.
The world building was nice, but slut shaming and all the hate women get for the way the look, was not.
    it's so unrealistic.
    The narrator is amazing.

Stellar narrator of stellar book! Definitely try this. There are several in the series, and they're all fantastic. Incredible world building! Very nice having such growth in the main character. Make sure to listen to the author note at the end - has important info. Just listen now!

An unexpectedly heartfelt and relatable read but difficult to slot into a clear category.

Oh. My. I've had this a while, and hadn't gotten around to reading it - too bad for me. Amazing world, great characters, fascinating situation (it even explains, finally, why she doesn't want to be tested...it fits the way she thinks). I immediately went and got the next book. I think I have a new author to binge on… I loved the line about fiction about alternate worlds where magic hadn't risen, or not when it actually did.
