About this audiobook

A resentful husband. A miserable wife. How can their marriage survive when “for better, for worse” becomes worse… and worse… and worse?

Elizabeth Bennet does not want to marry Fitzwilliam Darcy. He's rude, arrogant, and selfish. But her father's illness changes everything: if she holds out for love, her family may be destitute. Hoping Mr. Darcy's friends are right — that he is truly a better man than she knows — she accepts him. Afterward she begins to glimpse the generous, affectionate man she'd heard about. Until he learns what she really thinks of him.

Furious and betrayed, ensnared by a fortune-hunter who hates him, Fitzwilliam Darcy is nevertheless a man of his word. He will marry Elizabeth Bennet, but he will never again trust her with his heart. Returning to Pemberley and his sham of a marriage, he can hardly bear to be in the same room with his wife. Then he falls, and the real troubles begin.

Shakespeare wrote, “The course of true love never did run smooth,” but the Bard never scripted a path so perilous as Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy's. Join them as they face disasters both natural and man-made in search of their happy ending.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a very good and unique variation of Pride and Prejudice. The plot is unconventional and the character development is believable. The story has a nice balance of angst and a satisfying resolution. The writing and narration are strong, and the amount of research put into the time period is evident. While it may not be for those seeking a light read, the pay-off is lovely.

Very good, but a little too much happening . I didn’t like the reader at first, but a few chapters in I totally forgot all about it.

Great story and loved the narrator. They can sometimes be a bit stilted but I was throughly entertained.

Very strong writing and narration. You can tell a ton of research went into the time period- scientific, medical, architectural etc. This is a super angsty variation so if you’re looking for light, this may not be your cup of tea. The pay-off however is lovely.

I have enjoyed many P&P variations over the year, but this is a new favorite. Unique storyline, believable character development and nothing too far fetched. It had a nice balance of angst without be absurd. It had me sympathizing and rooting for both sides of the conflict and very much enjoying the resolution.

This is the only P&P variation that made me really cry heavily while listening to it. I was hesitant to listen to it first let alone finish it, but I want the bitter sweet slow burn of of the story I hope to hear/read more like this plot.
