About this audiobook
A darkness settles on this supposedly quiet street...
When Clare becomes a widow, her response is something that shocks her – relief. All she wants to do is move on and figure out how to continue her life, alone, no matter the guilt that brings.
So when Vic, her closest friend, comes to her, showing the signs of trouble in her own marriage, she is more than supportive in helping her leave Rob.
But Vic doesn’t get the chance to do that. Because as they go over to Vic's house to collect her things, they find a body. Rob’s.
It appears someone else had an axe to grind. But for Clare, already reeling from secrets from her own late husband’s dark past, she’s about to find out this murder isn’t as straightforward as it may appear…

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As always I enjoyed listening to this book. As always I was surprised at the end.,
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Great characters and the plot was.moving along nicely and then...WTH happened?! It's as if the author decided to just snip it off at the end. Thoroughly enjoyed until then, but a truly missed opportunity for a great story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really enjoyed this book, she's a great writer. There's always a twist with Anita Waller!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The true real life emotions of the characters. Interesting from start to finish. I must admit, I thought John’s son, Josiah would have conversations with his sisters…
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5There were a lot of frustrating bits about this book — first were the similarities to another of Waller’s books (Christmas baby, infant death, malignant melanoma, domestic abuse, neighbor BFFs, cop called Rosie, etc), so much that I felt like Waller just changed a few details and built a new plot around the same characters, throwing in the Queen’s death for flavor. Then there was the lack of mystery about both the murder and the child’s parentage. The police questioning was tedious and didn’t reveal a whole lot. Overall, this book lacked cohesion, was fairly depressing, and ended rather abruptly. I usually like the author’s work but this felt slapdash and repetitive. :(
