- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5To be honest, I found this summary to be quite boring and overly academic, compared to the original text by Helen Pluckrose & James Lindsay. This audiobook summary ignored the key section of the original book that covered LGBT issues. There was no sense arising from this summary of the harm done by identity politics - a claim made by the authors of the original book on its front cover. The book Cynical Theories is itself a summary, of the complex field of postmodern identitarian scholarship in university humanities departments run by neo-Marxist social justice activists who have a big problem with reality. This scholarship has been categorized as “cultural Marxism” wherein the Bourgeoisie in the original economic Marxism are replaced by Dominant Culture, and the Proletariat replaced by the so-called Marginalized Groups. The motivation is the dislike of the dominate culture that is heteronormative and Christian. This summary did not go anywhere near this ideological aspect. It did not address the motivations of the Critical Theory academics to overturn the existing order as evidenced by e.g., the riots instigated by the Black Lives Matter movement and the sexual abuse of children by giving them surgery to change their biological gender identity. This summary was devoid of any moral or value judgements, suggesting it was written by an undergraduate who had not yet developed a personal opinion on the matters discussed. The issue of cultural Marxism in Western society is as important as the issue of Zionism. Both elicit strong emotions on each side of the debate, and both cause great harm from a liberal democracy and anti colonial perspective.
