About this audiobook
The Great War still casts a dark shadow over a grieving widow and a wounded soldier, thrown together in the search for answers to a mysterious disappearance.
In 1917 Helen’s husband, Charlie Morrow, vanished without a trace in the battle of Passchendaele and now his widow, Australian, Helen Morrow, has brought her daughter to England to meet her husband’s family and discover the truth about Charlie’s death.
The only person who can tell her what happened is Charlie’s cousin, the reclusive Paul Morrow but, haunted by his own ghosts and badly wounded in the same action, he cannot recall the events the events of that fateful night.
The discovery of a coded diary, leads Helen and Paul on a quest to solve the mysterious disappearance of a young woman, two hundred years earlier. Did she abscond with her lover or did she die on the night she vanished?
In their search to resolve the mystery of Suzanna’s disappearance, Paul’s memory of that night in 1917 begins to return bringing with it all the horror of the trenches that he has tried to put behind him.
As their search to find answers to the two deaths becomes entwined, Paul and Helen come up against forces from the past and present determined to keep them apart.
Will they find the strength to face their adversaries and find peace and happiness together?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A rousing and sensitive tale of family, love, loss and grief, and the devastation and aftermaths of war. A carefully crafted story. Well worth the read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was an entertaining story with likeable characters. Helen Morrow is visiting her late husband’s ( Charlie) family home in England. Here she meets family and friends of her husband, some are friendly, others not so. The prejudices of the time are portrayed in this book. Paul Morrow was once the poor relation but has now inherited the title and land. There is a mystery surrounding Charlie’s death during the First World War. Also, there are strange happenings at the family home. There is romance and some para normal activity, and difficult decisions to be made but ultimately a happy ending. The narrator did change her voice for the different characters to bring them to life.
