Full Tilt is the inspiring true story of Dervla Murphy’s 1963 journey from Ireland to India on an Armstrong Cadet bicycle and the trials, landscapes and cultures she encountered along the way. The route takes her through the valleys and snowy mountain passes of Europe and India to the scorching deserts of Afghanistan and Pakistan, where the metal of her bicycle, Rozinante (named after Don Quixote’s steed), becomes too hot to touch. She travels alone, without luxuries, sleeping on the floors of teahouses or on blankets outdoors, vulnerable to wild animals, insects and thieves. However, she is often met with generosity and kindness, and shares many meaningful encounters with the locals. Her portrayal here gives a fascinating insight into the unique communities of the Middle East in the early 1960s.

Lismore (Irlanda), 1931-2022. Cicloturista irlandesa y autora de libros de viaje, su obra abarca más de cincuenta años de vivencias. Es conocida sobre todo por su libro A toda máquina. De Irlanda a la India en bicicleta (1965). Tras el nacimiento de su hija, escribió sobre sus viajes con ella a través de lugares como la India, Pakistán, Sudamérica, Madagascar y Camerún, y más tarde sobre sus viajes en solitario por Rumanía, África, Laos, los Estados de la antigua Yugoslavia y Siberia. Viajaba normalmente sola, sin lujos y dependiendo de la hospitalidad de la gente del lugar. En 1979 publicó su autobiografía Wheels Within Wheels, en la que describió su vida antes del viaje narrado en A toda máquina. Adventures, witty, and fascinating! Daredevil Dervla manages to enjoy herself and make friends whether in communist Bulgaria or the Hindu Kush. While not shy of expressing her opinion, Dervla is humble and open minded when learning about the cultures she travels through. Absolutely delightful!

An amazing journey, related with candour. This book really informs us about another time, whe this type of travel was possible.
