- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Like all Clifford Books, Emily Elizabeth is the narrator who introduces herself and her big red dog, Clifford. Emily Elizabeth relays the story of last summer's vacation. Since Clifford was too big to fit the car, Clifford was supposed to stay home with the neighbors. The detailed pictures parallel the text with the image of Clifford spreading onto two full pages. With his head and tail drooping, Clifford appears sad as Emily Elizabeth and her family disappears in the car. Instead of feeling lonely and sad, Clifford goes on an adventure to find his family. He determinedly fights the obstacles in his way, making some people very happy and very upset. Regardless, Clifford's determination results in success. Emily Elizabeth finds herself in an unfortunate circumstance and Clifford is around to save the day. The text has minimal sentences per paragraph and the illustrations cue the text. The illustrations are vibrate and engaging. Young readers will find themselves laughing at Clifford's clumsiness and cheering as Clifford saves his friends.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Clifford is left behind when Emily Elizabeth’s family goes to the mountains on vacation, but of course he comes anyway. He saves Emily Elizabeth from a family of bears, and her family decides they won’t leave Clifford behind again.
