- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I don't know why it's taken me so long to try this first "How Do Dinosaurs..." book from author Jane Yolen and illustrator Mark Teague, but I'm glad that our July dinosaur theme, over in the Picture-Book Club to which I belong prompted me to give it a chance, as How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight is an absolute delight! With a rhyming text that just begs to be read aloud - "How does a dinosaur say goodnight, when Papa comes in to turn off the light? Does a dinosaur slam his tail and pout? Does he throw his teddy bear all about?" - and brightly colored illustrations that capture the humor of each (possible) situation, it makes for an ideal bedtime selection. Highly recommended to all the little dinosaurs out there!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an absolutely wonderful rhyming story about bedtime. The art, the humor, and the story are all delightful. Great fun to read aloud and has a wonderful invite for roaring in the middle!Themes: bedtime, dinosaursAges: 3 to 8
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So incredibly cute. I read this book almost every day to the todlers at the day care I used to work at. They loved it and would ask for it all the time. It is also a book they can begin to memorize and read along with you. I think it truley gives good examples to youngsters of how we are expected to "say goodnight". I would often refer to the book at nap time. I love all the How Do Dinosaurs books!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Summary: The dinosaurs act just like kids do when getting for bed. They fight it. The dinosaur slam his tale on the ground and throws up a fuss. But then, the dinosaurs end up going to sleep. Response: I like this book because kids could relate to this book leading great discussions. I also like that it talks about good and bad behavior with lots of repetition throughout the book. Theme/Connection: Bedtime; Read Aloud; Discussion on going to bed
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A very cute story about how dinosaurs say goodnight. The story shows lots of motion as the dinosaurs move about. The illustrations showing these big lizards inside a child?s room being put to bed by human parents are amazing and so much fun. Many different angles and beautiful bright colors. Look for the dinosaur?s genus name hidden on each page. Good night, little dinosaur. Also, Jane Yolen has written more than 200 books for children and adults; Yowza!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A newer picture book that is quickly becoming a classic. The text is simple with a great read aloud quality, and the illustrations are just adorable. Huge dinosaurs squashed into little kids' rooms, stomping and pouting and throwing fits like two year old children. I love the picture of the Tyrannosaurus Rex "peeking" out of his bedroom door. I bought this book before I had kids because I thought it was great, and I am so delighted that I finally have a chance to read it to my daughter.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book would be goof for grades K-2, both boys and girls. It would be a good book to teach rhyme scheme or to teach manners. For the younger kids, I'd use this as a read-aloud, and by the time they got older, it would be a good independent read. I think the audience I chose would enjoy this book because it is silly, but they can learn a lesson from it. In a way, this book is relatable to them because at this age kids may fight their bedtime.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Pleasant read aloud about bedtime problems. Added bonus is the use of dinosaurs as the main characters. Each one is identified on the end pages, which spurred many of the children to seek additional books about dinosaur from the nonfiction shelves. There are three other "Dinosaur" behavior books in this series by Jane Yolen--"...Eat Dinner", "...Get Well So Soon", and "...Go to School".
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hilarious! A set of examples of very bold dinosaurs refusing to go to bed - followed by the reality of dinosaurs giving nice kisses, tucking in their tails and going to sleep. The art in this is amazing, the frazzled parents, and the dinosaurs with pitch perfect toddler body language under their scales.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Rhyming and cute
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A great book, it had good illustrations and also a good message on behavior. It teaches kids what not to do and what to do at bedtime.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I used to read this nightly to my daughter when she was 2-3 - not only is this funny and charming, it made our bedtime routine a breeze. She has always been resistant to bedtime (even now at almost-6), but reading this story always seemed to calm her down. Maybe it was seeing and hearing all the silly (but much performed by my daughter) behavior these dinosaurs *didn't* gave her a reason NOT to behave in similar ways. I still have the ending memorized, though we've moved on to different stories most nights. Now, as she's older, she got a kick out of trying to find and sound out the dinosaur names hidden on each page. Nothing better than finding a new way to appreciate an old, beloved book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This has been one of my favorite children's books for years. The first time I read it, I fell in love with the imaginative look at how young dinosaurs would act if they were asked to behave as children. Young and old readers alike will laugh out loud at the dinosaurs' ridiculous antics. Just an overall wonderful story with beautiful, colorful illustrations.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In the story, How do dinosaurs say good night, page after page we embrace a series of questions. "Does he throw his teddy bear all about," is an example of the of the questions we see as the little dinosaur gets put down to sleep. As a child we can relate to the troubles of going to sleep. In this book, I loved how relatable the story is and how children can make a connection with the text.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This story was about dinosaurs going down for their naptime. It showed different ways they may or may not go down for nap. I really did enjoyed the pictures in this story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a great book by one of my favorite authors. How do Dinosaurs Say Good Night has great detail and humor as I would expect from Jane Yolen. It is a new classic bedtime book. I highly recommend this book. The kids in the book are a variety of dinosaurs but how do they say goodnight? In it turns out that they are much like humans They give a big kiss, turn out the light, tuck in their tails, and whisper "good night."
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book goes through several different dinosaurs and asks questions about how they say goodnight when their dad or mom comes in to turn out the lights. They wanted to know does the dinosaur throw a fit, swing his tail or shake his head when it’s time to say goodnight. In the end, it revealed that dinosaurs simply give a kiss, turn out the light and say goodnight. I can relate to this book because when my nephew was younger he hated it when it was time to go to bed. He was the one throwing the fit and getting mad. I wish I had known about this book back then. I think this book has a good lesson for children to learn. In the classroom, I would have the children bring in their favorite blanket or teddy bear and we could all sit around on the floor while I read this book to them. Especially, if it was a kindergarten class and they took naps, it would be the perfect time to read it to them. Also, I would have the children discuss what their nighttime routine is and draw a picture of them sleeping in their room.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight by Jane Yolen is about how a dinosaur goes to bed. This story lists all the "wrong" things to do as well as all the "right" things to do. This book is extremely relatable for students and can be used in school as well as at home to teach students about responsibility and good behavior.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This a clever way of teaching bedtime manners to children. First it gives examples of how dinosaurs should not behave followed by the way they should behave. I would r5easd this to elementary students to encourage good manners.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"How do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?" is a cute story about all the different ways a dinosaur might say goodnight when it is time to go to bed. The book includes creative pictures and rhyming words and would be great to read aloud to young children.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Dinos say goodnight with 'Good Manners', which of course is the point of this great bedtime book. It is presented with humor, in rhyme, and with great illustrations. My grandsons love this book; we have read it many, many times.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Genre: FantasyReview: This is a book that questions what dinosaurs do when the go to bed. It is a good fantasy book, that children can relate to easily. This is of course a fantasy book because dinosaurs are given human characteristics and act like little kids who don't want to go to bed. Plot: The plot of this story is really well done, because children can relate to this book very well while still seeing the humor of their own actions at bedtime. Media: Not Stated
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? is a initiatory teaching picture book use different kinds of dinosaurs to teach children how to say good night to their parents. It is uses some wrong example of saying good bye which can teach children to distinguish which is right and which is wrong. The pictures in this book are painted by oil, it has all kinds of dinosaurs and draws children’s attention.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a cute rhyming book that shows how children should and should not act when it is time to go to bed. Each page also shows different dinosaurs with each dinosaur's name on the bed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jane Yolen and Mark Teague help children relate to what to do and not to do when saying goodnight to mom and dad. Some children may throw fits when finding out they have to go to bed and try to procrasinate but this wonderful book shows children that it is not a good idea to through a fit or try to make excuses of avoiding bed time. This book is fun and adorable for young children who are having trouble going to bed. Every parent can appreciate a fun book like this one!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Awesome, comparing kids to dinosaurs. Dinosaurs go to bed nicely so, so should you.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This modern fantasy books tells the story of how the different kinds of dinosaurs behave when they are going to bed. Each dinosaur goes through a routine. Some dinosaurs throw tantrums, some want a piggyback ride, others wanted to be hyperactive. In the end, all of the dinosaurs kiss their parents goodnight and go to bed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? In my opinion, “How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?” is a great example of a picture book that demonstrates good behavior at bedtime as well as simultaneously teaches the different dinosaur names. Although all of the illustrations in the book are drawn, the illustrator drew them real to life. They hold all the characteristics of the specific dinosaur that is then named somewhere on the page. Young readers can almost play “find the name of the dinosaur” as they read along because the name is usually hidden in the picture. Furthermore, at the beginning of the book on the inside cover is all of the dinosaurs that were in the book, and each one is drawn individually with the name of the dinosaur underneath. Some of the dinosaurs named are tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurus, and pteranodon. The book begins by asking questions that rhyme within themselves. “How does a dinosaur say good night when Pap comes in to turn off the light?” and “Does a dinosaur stomp his feet on the floor and shout: I want to hear one book more?” The book then changes half way through and begins answering the questions. “No, dinosuars don’t. They don’t even try. They give a big kiss” and continue modeling good bedtime behavior with the same rhyming pattern as the beginning of the book. I love this book and there are many more in the series. The big idea is teaching about dinosaurs while learning good bedtime behavior.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is about all the temper tantrums a dinosaur good throw when being told to go to sleep but that they don't do that. They say goodnight, turn out the light and go to sleep. This would be a good book to use with little boys who are determined not to go to sleep because if dinosaurs don't throw tantrums maybe they won't either.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Loved it. The story rhymes and the pictures are funny. It was a nice bedtime story about what dinosaurs do when its time to go to sleep. The author made it fun for children.
