About this audiobook
"Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism", by Lenin, describes the function of financial capital in generating profits from imperial colonialism, as the final stage of capitalist development to ensure greater profits. The essay is a synthesis of Lenin's modifications and developments of economic theories that Karl Marx formulated in "Das Kapital". Lenin's book greatly influenced the Core-Periphery model of global capitalist development, as well as World-systems theory and Dependency theory.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A gentleman’s 4-stars marked up from 3 for two reasons, a pro and a con. Pro: imagine imperial finance capital as a house. Lenin knew exactly how that house would be built, how big it was going to be, and why it would be the way it is. Given that many people living in the 21st century still don’t see capitalism for the world-destroying beast that it is, this is tremendous foresight. That being said, con: THE GOD DAMNED CHARTS AND REPETITION. Engels, Marx, Lenin, and Mao all have this in common. I absolutely understand the need to beat these ideas into the heads of the readers and bolster these facts with many examples but, that being said, I just wish there was more comparative analysis here instead of just listing the amount of pig iron and railroad tracks that cover different regions of the world and leaving you to draw your own conclusions before just saying again that these resources add to the imperial capitalist fervor. For me anyway, the raw data makes it more confusing. I read books for interpretation of raw data. This is another pet peeve but a lesser one; it’d be great to see a lot of this updated for modernity but then I guess that’s why there are so many Marxist scholars, including Lenin. OH DADDY MARX I HAVE CAPITAL VOLS. 1 & 2… I WILL NOT LET THEM GATHER DUST FOREVER I SWEAR!
